The Middle East/Africa region improved the most of any region with a 31 point reduction in piracy, from 80% in 1994 to 49% in 2002.
The Middle East, on average, improved from a piracy rate of 84% in 1994 to 50% in 2002, a drop of 34 points. Leading the region is the UAE with a 50 point drop, from 86% piracy in 1994 to 36% in 2002. Israel followed with a 41 point drop, from 78% piracy in 1994 to 37% in 2002. In the Middle East, all countries made improvements.
As a whole, Africa dropped 29 points, from 77% in 1994 to 48% in 2002. South Africa dropped 30 points, from 64% in 1994 to 34% in 2002, and Egypt dropped 32 points, from 84% in 1994 to 52% in 2002, the most improvement of any country in the region.
