Support Innovation - Promote Choice
BSA organized the Regional Innovation Forum 2008 in March 2008, the fourth in a series of exciting BSA events held in Asia that have brought together leading thinkers from government, business and academia for an exchange of views and debate on current trends and future directions in information technology (IT). As with past events held since 2005, the 2008 Forum focused on cutting edge issues and sought to identify the key ingredients for the successful development and implementation of IT strategies. The Forum participants included a number of globally renowned leaders from across the region and around the world.
The 2008 Forum brought to the forefront key issues concerning the support of innovation and growth in the IT industry in the region through encouraging choice and market competitiveness. Through visionary keynote presentations and lively panel discussions, we examined the environmental factors that are essential to industry growth and competitiveness, and how these factors can be influenced and driven by government policies and strategies. Case studies distilled lessons and best practices in developing local industry through incubation initiatives, as well as efforts in creating a suitable regulatory regime to combat cybercrime, which remains a serious threat to the continued growth of e-government, e-commerce and the IT industry more generally. The Forum featured several new studies on IT competitiveness conducted by the renowned and internationally recognized INSEAD business school, Harvard Berkman Center and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
As in previous years, this year’s Forum brought together specially invited participants from Asia Pacific to share and exchange their views with international experts in relation to challenging technology policy issues facing decision-makers in the region. Senior participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as from North Asia from China, Japan and Korea attended the Forum.
